Who We Are

Spectrum Pension Consultants, Inc. (“Spectrum") is a closely held Washington State Corporation that enables American Workers to plan and save towards a dignified financial future by designing, administering, and operating the ranges of retirement and financial plans for U.S. organizations.

As a financial technology (“fintech”) platform provider of retirement and financial plans, Spectrum provides services and solutions to client organizations. A technology forward company, Spectrum utilizes both licensed and proprietary software in its client service and solution offerings.

Headquartered in Tacoma, Washington and having over 35 staff members, Spectrum works for more than 800 organizations in all market sectors and industries, along with certain government agencies. Our clients, located throughout the United States, have entrusted us to serve the retirement and financial needs of more than 50,000 people and $2+ billion in plan assets.

While retaining our independence, Spectrum often collaborates with external financial consultants and other professionals in the provision of services and solutions to clients.

Our History

  • 2022

    Our Managing Director and CEO, Petros Koumantaros provided testimony to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (U.S. Senate HELP Committee) to improve retirement and and enhance savings in America. Petros's testimony contributed to pending retirement plan legislation, which would benefit millions of working American's and their employers.   • 2015

    In recognition of our expanded services, we also adopted the Spectrum Consultants trade name. When delivering 401(k) plan administration administration or benefit plan outsourcing services, we continue to engage under the name Spectrum Pension Consultants.

  • 2013

    Spectrum becomes a licensee of Alliance Benefit Group, a national network of independently owned and operated retirement plan consulting; investment advisory; health and welfare consulting; and benefits administration firms. Collectively, Alliance Benefit Group is one of the largest retirement plan administrators in the country; providing administration services to over 15,000 plans representing more than $50 billion in assets and over one million participants.

  • 2006 Spectrum Open Save the Date

    2006

    Spectrum hosts the first annual Spectrum Open Charity Golf Tournament and Dinner Event, benefiting the Pano Koumantaros Cancer Research Fund. Held during the summer, this annual charity event has brought together business, civic, and nonprofit leaders throughout our community.

  • 2005

    Tragedy struck in December 2005 when Spectrum lost its founder, Panayotis P. Koumantaros after a 6-month battle with bladder cancer. Pano, as he was known to clients, colleagues, family, and friends, was deeply loved and his legacy lives on in our firm. In Pano's memory, the Koumantaros family founded the Pano Koumantaros Cancer Research Fund. A 501(c)(3) organization, the Pano Koumantaros Cancer Research Fund has raised more than $1.5 Million towards cancer research, cancer treatment, and cancer care initiatives.

  • 1996

    Spectrum Consultants began offering daily valuation recordkeeping services to its workplace retirement plan clients. Prior to the advent of daily valuation, account balances were valued only on a balance-forward, periodic basis (ex. annually or quarterly). Imagine waiting a full year to get an updated value of your retirement account balance! Although this seems silly by today's standards, such approaches were very common in the 1990s. Our daily valuation system's voice response unit and web platform were pioneers in their day.

  • 1988

    By the late 1980s, our firm had grown considerably, requiring two separate floors in a downtown Tacoma, Washington office building. We moved from downtown to our current location across the street from Tacoma Community College. The larger office space and on-site parking was a welcome change for our Clients and Staff Members!

  • 1978

    We incorporated in Washington State under the name Spectrum Pension Consultants, Inc. Originally, our firm's principal focus was to design and administer workplace retirement plans for employer organizations throughout Puget Sound. What do you think of our original logo and our first business card? Our corporate branding has come a long way since the late 1970s!
